[When the feed turns on, Banjou has a guitar in his lap, the camera at an awkward angle that focuses more on the guitar than it does Banjou. He doesn't seem to mind this, idly strumming at it without trying to play a particular song. It's not like he can actually read sheet music, so everything he does is played on the fly anyway.]

I have a question.

[He finally settles on something melodic, if repetitive, before he continues.]

Does anyone here have hobbies they find difficult to continue here? Or something they've found they have more time for here as opposed to where they come from? Take what I'm doing-- I never had as much time as I wanted back home.

It's complicated, but I think I'm beginning to enjoy the freedom this place gives me.

I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

How many songs do you know?

I think there are people that have been here for over four years now. I've been here for three, so it's been awhile. This place is a lot different than Amestris, but that's a good thing.

[Well, besides the lack of alchemy.]

Hey, there can easily be more than one group of bad guys at once. I mean, from a certain point of view we also have to add whatever brought us here, don't we?

Actually, I usually make up things as I go along. I'm starting to learn sheet music, but I think I play better by ear.

I see. Sheet music isn't terribly hard, as long as you know how to make the correct notes. Though guitar notation is generally even simpler. I'm sure you can find some guitar tab books - even a place like this should have them.

Four years?

[He really hopes he's not here that long. This place is great and all, but he has stuff to do.]

I've only been here for four months. That's... that's impressive.

Most people aren't here that long. I can only think of one person off the top of my head who's been here that long.

[And it's Cobra. No one needs to talk about Cobra.]

I don't know what the average is, but it seems like some people come and go really quickly or they stay for around a year, then leave.

That depends on where you're from. It's a big city.

The part where I'm from used to be fairly low crime, but it's gotten worse over the years.

[That's about the only way he can explain it while side-stepping everything about ghouls.]

It's still my home, though.

What were the nice things about the part you were from?

I've noticed that people vanish sometimes. I wonder what keeps people here and what makes people leave?

Maybe that's not something we can know about, though.

I miss them. Maybe they'll show up here one day.

We could have been brought here by the wishes of a thousand dreaming Cleffas, for all we know. But they're not trying to sell us high-priced houses or Pokémon-related goods, so they're not anywhere near the top of my suspect list.

I have no idea. It would be nice to know, but people would probably abuse it.

[He shakes his head. You'd think someone would have some sort of idea about this after four years.]

Good. A lot of musicians play things by ear anyway. In some circles it's hard to find a member of a band who can read sheet music.

[Maybe one day people will figure it out...]

[He's actually a little uncomfortable at the idea, but he's very aware that it's something that people would take advantage of if they could.]

I can understand the sentiment. There are more than a few people I'd like to see here.

What are your friends like? If it's okay that I ask.

They're good people, and all of them are good with kids.

I think they'd like this place. It's pretty peaceful, considering.

It is. Even the horrible things that happen... It seems like they get sorted out quickly.

[He is beyond thrilled. Is it possible to be "beyond thrilled"? Ecstatic? Jubilant? Excited beyond all measure? He can reign it back for a moment. Juuuuuust a moment. He wants to listen to Banjou playing. ]

Good to see you got your guitar back. [But the music matches the mood well enough that it gets Rin to settle down a little more. It's been a while since he heard music outside of what Johto had to offer, unsettling tunes or otherwise. It's a much better change of pace, something normal in a sea of crazy things.]

I've had a lot more time to focus on my cooking. I'm making things now I didn't think I could make. And I have a job thanks to it. [teenage shrug]

's not the same as your guitar playing. ...Did your band have to play in secret?

[He wishes he could cook.

He's actually learning here. Before he never really had a reason to learn to cook.]

I'm glad to have it back.

[One of these days, he'll have to apologize, because when he said "street performers" he had been trying to indicate something much less refined than a real band.]

We didn't exactly play in secret or anything, but we never broadcasted it. It was one of those things where you had to find out about it through word of mouth, you know?

[Rin would be more than happy to teach, if Banjou were to ever ask. He loves cooking food almost as much as he enjoys eating it.

Banjou's words sink into Rin's mind. A concert that was never broadcasted? Songs that were only known to certain groups? No... it can't be...!]

So you guys were one of those political bands? Or was the government tryin' to shut you down?
