002 [video;]
[When the feed turns on, Banjou has a guitar in his lap, the camera at an awkward angle that focuses more on the guitar than it does Banjou. He doesn't seem to mind this, idly strumming at it without trying to play a particular song. It's not like he can actually read sheet music, so everything he does is played on the fly anyway.]
I have a question.
[He finally settles on something melodic, if repetitive, before he continues.]
Does anyone here have hobbies they find difficult to continue here? Or something they've found they have more time for here as opposed to where they come from? Take what I'm doing-- I never had as much time as I wanted back home.
It's complicated, but I think I'm beginning to enjoy the freedom this place gives me.
I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way.
((bonus alternative listening.))

Oh, no, nothing like that. We just sat down and played.
[Much better!
Right?]
Re: [video]
[Rin looks a bit sheepish at that. He hadn't meant to get all confused like that. Yeesh, imagine if he was on the wrong track the whole time.]
Did you always want to be a musician?
No, but it's a big hobby of mine.
How did you start?
It was in pretty rough shape, but it still played in tune.
[That, at least, is not a lie. It's creepy, because it was more of a trophy than a gift, but it was still handed to Banjou.]
[Rin is clearly impressed. However the question remains.]
Ah, well... you know.
[Trying to dodge the question. Poorly.]
What's with that response? Was this a trick band question? --Or maybe it was a bad question to ask. What does Rin even say to that? He laughs a little, though he sounds unsure.]
Heh... it's probably some big secret thing! He's gotta have a mysterious past to make him look more interesting, right?
[Even so, he tries to switch topics. Because obviously there was some Big Sad Secret. Or Kaneki was painfully shy. Like he'd break out in hives or something if people knew anything about him.]
You make playing the guitar look easy! I wouldn't be able to play one.
He's not sure what to say about Kaneki, so he lets out a slight, awkward laugh at the question. This was so stupid of him. Maybe he should have thought of a better excuse.]
I'm sure you'd be able to pick it up. Guitar isn't that hard.
You go, Banjou! Protect your friend's secret identity!
Rin shakes his head. It was nice to be encouraged by an ACTUAL MUSICIAN but there's no way that he could live up to that kind of expectation.]
Nah, there's no way I could! I'd break it as soon as I get my hands on it... I mean - maybe not anymore but - y'know - pro'lly still could manage to break it.
This is a lie that's going to screw him over eventually.]
I don't know, guitars are pretty resilient. Snapping a string happens sometimes, it's not a big deal.
You make it sound like they're way easy to fix.
It is difficult to fix, but only because fixing a guitar for him used to involve finding time both to shoplift and making sure he didn't get caught doing so.
Being as big and noticeable as he is, it was pretty difficult.]
It only takes a few minutes to swap out a broken string.
[He thought guitars would snap in half. Like, literally, snap in half. That's what his recorder did once back in elementary school! Then again, Rin had been abnormally strong...]
It shouldn't, no.
Or at least try.]
...Could you teach me how to play?
Of course!
I don't know how good of a teacher I'll be, but I'm willing to help you.
Thank you! [he is cheering so loud but he's trying to be cool and mature BUT HE IS STILL SPAZZING LIKE A 10 YEAR OLD.]
When do we start? How do we start? Do I get to meet you in person?!
We can start any time. I live in Goldenrod, so we can pick a spot to meet at and go from there.
I can show you how to play. As for when we start, I don't mind when we get to it; my schedule is flexible.
I work there - in Goldenrod! Oh, but my brother and Al are checkin' out the other cities here. 'm not gonna be back there for a while. But when I do come back, let's totally start from there! I'll practice everyday!
Sure, I'll be waiting until then.
