002 [video;]
[When the feed turns on, Banjou has a guitar in his lap, the camera at an awkward angle that focuses more on the guitar than it does Banjou. He doesn't seem to mind this, idly strumming at it without trying to play a particular song. It's not like he can actually read sheet music, so everything he does is played on the fly anyway.]
I have a question.
[He finally settles on something melodic, if repetitive, before he continues.]
Does anyone here have hobbies they find difficult to continue here? Or something they've found they have more time for here as opposed to where they come from? Take what I'm doing-- I never had as much time as I wanted back home.
It's complicated, but I think I'm beginning to enjoy the freedom this place gives me.
I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way.
((bonus alternative listening.))

[...Tsukiyama, you were the asshole who broke it in the first place. Accidentally, granted, but...]
I've no idea where he's gone recently, but I know he's still around; he would play near Anteiku sometimes, I know that. I think you would like him, if you were to meet him; he's a pacifist, like you are, and he holds some interesting beliefs regarding the value of life.
[Well, if he finds it awkward, it's not showing through; he seems to be doing just fine talking to the feed as it is.]
no subject
That, and Tsukiyama doesn't use the word "friend" lightly, even if the two men don't see eye-to-eye on what actually makes a person a friend.]
I guess it's possible he might show up here.
[That seems to be how it goes here. People with connections to each other show up here more often than a single person from a world.]
What kind of beliefs does he have? I've never had the chance to meet many people with beliefs like mine.
[That goes without saying but he tried.]
no subject
...Three guesses as to which Ikuma is, and the first two don't count. Anyway...]
Well, he dislikes the idea of living off the misfortune of others in any way - he seems to think all life is inherently something that should be protected, regardless of reason, to the detriment of oneself if necessary.
[And there's...really not much need to explain why he doesn't exactly subscribe to that notion, is there.
The weak bow down, the strong devour them.]
Ah, but speaking of those who might show up one day - I imagine Hinami-chan would like to know that you've been playing more. You're self-taught, n'est-ce pas?
no subject
I see.
[He has to bite back the impulse to start an argument. Keep this civil, that's what he needs to keep in mind. His expression is sour even though Tsukiyama can't see it, but he brightens at the mention of Hinami.]
I'm sure she'd appreciate hearing me improve. I'm self-taught, yeah.
[His playing is nothing special, but this is one of those things Banjou takes it upon himself to do even so.]
no subject
Maybe I'll ask you to play something for me sometime.
[And surprisingly, he doesn't sound like he's fucking with you at all; it's awkward, a little, but it's actual interest.]
Musical instruments have always been something that hold my interest, very much so - I like hearing what people can do with them.
no subject
If you don't mind a lot of improvisation, sure.
[He'll take it at face value. Tsukiyama isn't the sort of person to offer something without meaning it on some level, as far as Banjou knows anyway. That, and Banjou's heard Tsukiyama play before.]
Things were too serious to ever do something like that back home, weren't they? I don't mind doing it here.
[It's not like Banjou is looking forward to it or anything, but his tone is on the politer end of neutral.]
no subject
Even if they hadn't been, somehow I doubt you and I would have had any interest, anyway.
no subject
At least the man hasn't gone back to putting flowers in his hair?]
Probably not.
[There had been too many differences in ideologies for either to want to spend any more time than needed around the other.
It begs the question: when did that change?]
....it doesn't matter now.
no subject
That said, he's a little slower to pick up on the implication there, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't catch it at all; his expression goes a little strange for a moment, his gaze darting down somewhere off-feed, and he pets Nadia for a moment before he speaks.]
No, it doesn't.
[The agreement is an easy one, at least.]
I don't really mind that, either.
no subject
That's not something he could do in Tokyo.]
Let me know when you're interested in playing together. I can't promise it'll be anything approaching professional, but I'm sure Meridiana will appreciate us playing.
no subject
Miss Everett would enjoy that, I think - we've discussed music before, she likes it quite a bit.
[Because apparently we can actually agree on keeping the cute Victorian girl happy.]
Answer something for me?
no subject
Well, they're both trying.]
All right. Ask away.
no subject
[He doesn't seem troubled at all by asking, though he is back to idly petting Nadia again.]
Ah, and before you ask, I'm not asking with any sort of ulterior motive; I just want to hear your thoughts on it.
locked;
There really isn't a need for it anymore, is there?
[...and while he's at it, this is probably a conversation they should have in private. There's a delay as he sets the guitar down long enough to lock the feed.]
But let's be honest: this hasn't been about the alliance in at least a month.
no subject
How forward of you, Banjou-san - and behind a filter as well! Keep this up and I'll start thinking there's something you're not telling me.
[...Because surely you didn't think you were getting off easily.]
But you do have a point - of course it hasn't. Though that begs the question of what it is about, n'est-ce pas?
no subject
I wouldn't know what this is about!
[Getting defensive is the last thing he needs to be doing right now.]
Whatever this is, it's better than fighting.
no subject
...Which is arguably worse, depending on how you want to look at things, but still.]
Calmato, calmato - if you truly find it preferable to fighting, why don't we try to keep it that way, hm? I'm not trying to argue with you.
no subject
I don't have a problem with that.
[Maybe he should adjust the Gear so it's not aimed at his chest. Tsukiyama gets a few moments of shaky-cam before Banjou adjusts the feed so they're talking at each other instead of the weird Skype conversation they were having before.]
no subject
That said, he appreciates actually having some idea of what Banjou's doing with his face; here's hoping he doesn't make him blush again, goodness.]
So all of this comes down to the fact that we want to, then. No expectations.
no subject
That's right. I think that's fair, don't you? This isn't about anyone but ourselves.
[The Kaneki here would probably be more alarmed than not about them doing things for him.]
no subject
[He's always been the resident outlier of this little group of theirs, after all.
Not that he seems bothered by it any; if he is, he's certainly not going to talk to Banjou about it if such a thing can be avoided.]
I'm not looking for sympathy or reassurance, mind you, since things like that don't interest me any; I just find it strange that we should continue to associate without expecting some sort of payoff.
[...Short of taking friendship into consideration, at which point companionship is its own reward, but that's not an idea he's entertaining simply because it's so insipid.]
no subject
Maybe it is strange.
[With the way ghouls are, there should be some sort of payoff. Granted, the situation with Kaneki's group had been complicated to say the least, and things have managed to remain just as complicated even in the place where they're not constantly looking over their shoulders.]
I haven't given this as much thought as I should be.
no subject
If it wasn't concerning you before, Banjou-san, don't let it start now; you've told me what I wanted to know already.
no subject
Is there anything else you needed to discuss, Tsukiyama-san?
no subject
He's just as paranoid as Banjou is, when all is said and done; it just manifests differently, is all. Less looking over one's shoulder in fear of being stabbed in the back, and more knowing that it's inevitable that he will be and wanting to know if he can negotiate down - maybe stab him in the side instead of between the ribs.]
...Do you have an answer to your own question, regarding hobbies that are difficult to pursue here?
